Sri Lanka Telecom PLC. (SLT) – The country’s ICT giant – proudly announced that the new South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe (SEA-ME-WE 5) submarine cable system, a multi-regional superhighway enters the operational implementation phase after the “coming into force” fulfilments that have totally been met. The contractors, Alcatel Submarine Networks and NEC have started all operational activities in order to achieve the ready-for-service stage for the 20,000 kilometre international submarine system by the second half of 2016.
“As our industries were affected during last year’s power price hikes, to support them my Ministry has launched Sri Lanka’s first ever Industrial Estate Energy Efficiency Programme recently. The selected manufacturers will reduce their annual energy usage by as much as 20% by the end of this year” said a satisfied Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Sri Lanka recently in Colombo.
As it prepares for its latest investment wave, Sri Lanka largest industrial zone in South is to receive an immediate infrastructure boost. The strategic Zone, is within a mere 30 Km radius of key Southern logistics-the Magampura Harbour and the Mahinda Rajapksa International Airport (MRIA).
