    Army seeks assistance to identify personnel who assisted mob

    Responding to allegations which surfaced based on a video that was circulated on social media depicting an army personnel willingly assisting violent mobs, the army in a special statement has sought assistance from the general public to identify the individual to take disciplinary action.CCTV footage released from a mosque in Thunmodara shows an armed army personnel beckoning mobs to approach the mosque. He is seen gesturing asking them to proceed and is swiftly seen leaving the scene.

    Brigadier Sumith Atapattu, Director media in a statement noted that attention has been drawn to a clip where an individual dressed in uniform similar to the army is seen watching a group of violent mobs attack a nearby mosque. "The army on watching this particular video has launched a special inquiry to identify the person who is suspected to be a military personnel. The public are advised to help the army to trace this person for necessary action."

    If inquiry confirms the person in question is from the Sri Lankan army, necessary disciplinary action is to be taken against him. The general public are advised to inform the special Investigation Unit of Corps of Military Police on 0112514280.
