Much of the country's power plants working coal is located in the coal region of Donbass, where the regions of Donetsk and Lungansk are, which held referendums on sovereignty in March last year.
Yatseniuk said that to fill the basic needs of energy preparation in the next winter, the country will require at least half a million tons of coal in a period of two and a half months.
The Head of Government expressed his hope to receive the fuel by sea from South Africa, USA and other countries, while he called for negotiations with all potential suppliers, including Russia.
At least 35 of some 90 coal mines in the nation are in the Donbass region, where the Army and the National Guard launched an operation against the insurgent population on April 2014, contrary to the coup of February of that year.
Yatseniuk, who came to power at the head of the coup government, said he hoped to reach an agreement with Russia before coming October for the supply of five to six billion cubic meters of gas.
After defaults earlier this year Russian enterprise Gazprom decided to impose this country's regime to avoid prepaid business debts Naftogaz Ukraina.
In late June, Ukraine has suspended the import of that Russian fuel.
The capital's press comments on the seriousness of the energy issue, after several large power plants driven by coal had to suspend its work for lack of fuel, while programming is made blackouts.
The fuel used by many industries and factories in Ukraine is gas. The required volume from the outside for the whole year is close to 28 billion cubic meters.
But Russia fears that much of the gas stored in underground repositories, including the system of pipelines in Ukraine to transfer to Europe, it can be used for this country if needed in the winter, without due payment for the use, the Prensa Latina News Agency reported.
