    Muhammadu Buhari Swears-in as Nigeria President

    Abuja: The 72 years old Muhammadu Buhari swore in on Friday (29) as new President of Nigeria by the Magistrate of the Supreme Court of this country, Mahmoud Mohammed, referred the media.

    Buhari swore to observe the Nigerian constitution and laws of the country, while holding in one hand a Koran, noted the newspaper.


    The ceremony was attended by many politicians from Africa and around the world, among them the Secretary of State of the United States, John Kerry.

     

    In this way Friday, May 29 is marked in the Nigerian political landscape, as the day in which for the first one opposition party, in this case the All Progressives Member Congress (APC), makes its debut in power.

     

    The Buhari's swearing-in ceremony coincided with the celebrations of the Day of Democracy, which was established in 1999 when Nigeria ended fifteen years of military regimes.

     

    Nigeria's new president will face many challenges from now until 2019, date to in which he must complete his term in office.

     

    Among these goals is to end the insurgency of Boko Haram, fight against unemployment that reaches 50 percent among young people and eliminate corruption in government and public administrations.

     

    Buhari is a retired general who led the country between 1983 and 1985 after a coup and won with 54 percent of the votes the elections of April 28, in front of his rival Goodluck Jonathan.
