    Spanish Monarchs Cancel Visit to France After Plane Crash

    Paris: The King and Queen of Spain Felipe VI and Letizia cancelled a visit to France, scheduled to start today, due to the death of 150 people in a plane accident in the south of this country.

     

    A plane of the German company Germanwings with 150 persons on board (six crew members), crashed this Tuesday in the region of Barcelonnette, in the Gallic Alps.

     

    From the Élysée Palace, along with the president, Francois Hollande, the monarch communicated that, after having conversations with the Spanish prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, they decided to cancel the trip and wait until finding future dates to resume the plan for the visit, Prensa Latina News Agency reported.

     

    The aircraft, an Airbus A320, was flying between Barcelona (Spain) and Düsseldorf (Germany). The conditions of the accident still have not been clarified, but recent reports indicate that there are no survivors.  The plane disappeared of the radars screens at 11:20, local time. Hundreds of rescuers were deployed in the area of the event, a difficult access mountainous area.  The informations indicate that the communication with the flight was interrupted at 9:41 this Tuesday, after having taking off from Barcelona at 9:35.

     

    The plane went down to ground with a speed of 3,000 and 4,000 feet per minute, what usually corresponds to the standard of approach of these aircrafts to land.

     

    The remains were located to 2,700 meters of high in the massif of Trois Evechés and they are spread in a two kilometers radius, informed the local media BFMTV.

     

    Among the victims there were people of German, Spanish and Turkish nationality. Meanwhile, the District attorney's office of Marseilles opened an investigation for manslaughter. The last reports point out that the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, will travel tomorrow to the place of the tragedy.
