Non-Aligned Countries to Cooperate on Improving Human Rights

    March 04, 2015

Geneva: The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) asserted in Geneva on Tuesday (03) that dialogue, tolerance and international cooperation are essential to improve human rights in the world.

Abbas Bagherpour Arddekanim, Deputy Permanent Representative of Iran in Geneva, said on behalf of NAM before a high-level panel of the 28th session of the Human Rights Council, that no such progress has been achieved in this regard and obstacles to reach development prevail.

Bagherpour said that the multiple and complex challenges of today's world require global solutions through international cooperation and inclusive mechanisms in order to achieve a democratic, just and equitable world order.

Therefore, he considered essential a greater commitment from all parties and the implementation of practical measures with constructive approaches seeking to promote and defend human rights, as well as understand the common challenges that hinder their achievement.

Bagherpour Arddekanim called for glorifying cultural diversity as a source of unity and seeing this diversity as a vehicle for creativity and dynamism.

The 28th regular session will run until March 27 at the Palais des Nations, UN headquarters in this city.
