    February 02, 2015

Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid says resolution of Kashmir issue is imperative for durable peace in the South Asia.

Addressing a function in Islamabad on Sunday in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day, he said solution of this lingering issue will bring prosperity to the region.

The Minister said Pakistan will continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to Kashmiris in their just struggle for right to self-determination.

He urged India to fulfil Jawaharlal Nehru's promise of plebiscite in Kashmir to decide their future themselves.

Pervaiz Rashid said India cannot become member of UN Security Council until it fulfils its pledges made in the UN resolutions.

Addressing the function, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman said Kashmir issue should be resolved according to the wishes of Kashmiris in line with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

He said that international community should play its role to help resolve this issue. He regretted the international community has adopted a callous attitude on the issue of Kashmir.

He said UN Security Council's resolutions on Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, East Timor and Sudan were implemented by the international community, but UN resolutions on Kashmir are still pending.

Fazlur-Rehman said Bharatiya Janata Party is a sectarian party, which is dividing Kashmir on Hindu-Muslim basis.

He urged the government to keep a close eye on rapidly unfolding circumstances and formulate an effective foreign policy to counter new challenges posed by India.(PBC)
