    January 07, 2015

United Nations: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will travel to India this week on a four-day agenda including meetings with authorities and attending events, Prensa Latina Agency Reports said quoting  his spokesman Stephane Dujarric to have confirmed.

In remarks to journalists, Dujarric said that Ban will mainly stay in the capital and western Gujarat, one of the most industrialized states of India.

Ban is scheduled to meet with President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, said Dujarric.

The UN chief will also attend economic and foreign relations forums and visit a solar- powered plant and the residence of late leader, pacifist thinker Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) in Gujarat, where he lived for 12 years.

Ban is scheduled to end his visit on January 13 after meeting with personnel from several UN agencies in India.

According to Dujarric, this will be Ban's fourth trip to India since he assumed his top UN position in 2007. (KH)
