The Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera announced that Fertilizer has been identified as an essential item. The announcement was made at a media briefing this morning (May 21th)
Minister Amaraweera added that the agrarian insurance of Rs.1350, previously paid by the farmers, will now be borne by the government.
The document requesting that fertilizer be made an essential item has been sent to the consumer affairs authority by the secretary of the ministry.
