    Ambassador to Cyprus presents credentials

    Daya Pelpola, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Rome concurrently accredited to Cyprus, presented the Letter of Credence to Nicos Anastasiades, President of the Republic of Cyprus on 4th April at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.

    Ambassador Pelpola during discussions with the Cypriot President conveyed Sri Lanka’s interest in strengthening and diversifying relations between the two countries, as there are many new opportunities available in Sri Lanka.

     

    Ambassador Pelpola briefed President Anastasiades on the initiatives taken by the National Unity Government to rebuild the country with special focus on democracy, reconciliation and economic development. President Anastasiades whilst discussing the warm bilateral relations looked forward to strengthening trade and economic collaboration between the two countries.

     

    Formal diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and Cyprus were established in 1963. Sri Lanka is concurrently accredited to Cyprus from Rome and Cyprus is accredited to Sri Lanka from New Delhi.
