He said that as Tajikistan has natural resources and Sri Lanka has new technology, both nations will gain mutual benefits through working together.
He made these remarks addressing the Sri Lanka – Tajikistan Business Meeting at Hotel Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo.
Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva, Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishard Bathiudeen, EDB Chairperson and CEO Mrs. Indira Malwatte, and Tajikistani delegates participated at the meeting.
Addressing the occasion, Acting Foreign Minister De Silva said that a Sri Lankan business delegation and a trade mission led by the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickreme would visit Tajikistan next year prior to President Maithripala Sirisena’s visit to Tajikistan.
Business community representing the fields of gem and jewellery, apparel, rubber-based products, porcelain, and tableware will be included in the delegation, he added.
Further explaining the remaining business potential for both countries, which commenced bilateral relations in April, 2001, the minister also added that there are a number of investment opportunities in Tajikistan for Lankan investors such as hydropower and apparel sectors.
A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan.
