Korean Cultural Festival 2015 begins today Featured

    June 26, 2015

The two day Korean Cultural Festival 2015 will commence today (26) at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

The Korean Embassy, in partnership with Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and State Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka, has organised this event as an open forum for Korean culture and sports. The Festival consists of three main events: K-pop World Festival 2015 and Quiz on Korea 2015, and the 1st Korean Ambassador’s and Kukkiwon Cup Taekwondo Championship.

On June 10, registrations for the K-pop World Festival and Quiz on Korea in Sri Lanka were concluded with great success. A relatively large number of applications were received by the Embassy, despite it being the first participatory event of the Sri Lankan people.

More than 100 persons participated in the Quiz competition and  36 teams (65 people) in the K-pop competition. The publicity of the event went so international that one team from Indonesia had even registered for the national preliminaries in Sri Lanka.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea invites the Sri Lankan public to come and enjoy the Cultural Festival.

The event is sponsored by Samsung, Korean Airlines, KIA, Hyundai and Abans. In particular, the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) has contributed immensely to stage setting of this event, and will also record and air the K-pop World Festival in Sri Lanka nationwide.

The prizes and benefits does not only apply to the contestants. Lucky draws will be drawn for the audience to appreciate their attendance. The Korean Embassy anticipates an active participation from the Sri Lankan public. Entry is free of charge.
