State Minister of Culture and Arts, Nandamithra Ekanayake who engaged in an inspection tour of the National Museum in Colombo on Thursday said that the renovation activities being carried out at present, commenced last August and it is expected to complete renovation activities by the end of this year. But there are certain obstacles that we have to face in this regard because subsequent to the commencement of the renovations it has revealed that they are in a much more dilapidated state than expected.
He also noted that they have a plan on completing the renovation work within six months.
A Police Unit has been established for the security of the museum, and if more force is needed in the future, steps will be taken to further tighten security at the National Museum, he added.
