    SriLankan Quiz Team wins a top slot at the Global Commerce Quiz for the “ Governor’s Challenge Trophy 2014

    The Quiz Team of SriLankan Airlines won the first place in the “Public sector institutions” category at the Global Commerce Quiz for the Governor’s Challenge Trophy 2014, held recently at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo. Sri Lankan team defeated a number of Public sector institutions including the team from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. SriLankan team was also placed joint tenth in the overall score tables of the quiz competition, jointly organized by the Shippers’ Academy of Colombo and Central Bank of Sri Lanka.


    The quiz was conducted by the International Quizzing Association’s Sri Lanka chapter, maintaining the highest standards, and testing knowledge on the fields of global commerce, trade and transport in addition to general knowledge and current affairs. The competition brought together 33 teams representing the county’s leading banking, insurance, information technology, transport, shipping and other mercantile institutions, who vied for seven acclaimed titles in addition to the overall championship.

    SriLankan Airlines’ Quiz team members; Vidya Siriwardhana – Team leader, Thusitha Wijesooriya, Nalaka Abeyratne, Suman Udayakumaran and Ruwan Bandara successfully excelled in the rounds, placing the Airline ahead of some leading banking , insurance, shipping and export companies.

    The team was awarded a trophy and certificates at the Global Commerce Excellence awards Ceremony which was held subsequent to the quiz.

    The bi-annual, prestigious global commerce excellence awards felicitated many big names in the export industry that contributed to the country’s economic growth.

    National Carrier, SriLankan Airlines was also awarded the best international airline, in recognition of its service excellence and its progressive contribution towards Sri Lanka’s economy.
