Corporal Anil Prasanna Jayalath of the Sri Lanka Army Commando Regiment had won gold in the 200 meters (T42) event at the 13th Asian Para Games currently being held in South Korea. Clocking 25.87 seconds Corporal Jayalath finished first at the finals worked off at the Asiad Main Stadium on Wednesday (22nd).
Corporal Jayalath is a war hero who had sustained serious injuries during the final phase of the humanitarian operations in February 2009. He became disable below his right knee in a LTTE mortar attack in Puthukkudiyirippu area.
With this win Sri Lanka stands at the 18th place with one gold four silver and three bronze medals. China has topped the medals table with 121 gold medals.(ST)
