Under this a programme to enhance artistic skills of children in under-served settlements in the fields of drama, art, sculpture and music has been commenced with the participation of around 25,000 children.
Already 100 Art and Sculpture training Centres have been established and 20,000 children in under-served settlements have attended these training programs.. The first round of this competition will be held from 4th to 28th September within under-served settlements as well as in public places. The second round will commence on 20th September at the Viharamahadevi Park with the participation of 10,000 children.
The Urban Settlements Development Authority has also made arrangements to hold a children's art exhibition at the National Art Gallery from 1st to 4th October.
The first round of the children's drama competition was held recently at Greenpath New Town Hall and the final round will take place on 27th and 28th September at the same venue. 75 dramas were submitted for the first round.
A Children's cultural concert, launching of Children's songs CD and an awards ceremony for children in under-served settlements who have shown their skills in acting, singing and dancing will be held with the support of the University of Aesthetic Studies at the Nelum Pokuna Performing Arts Theatre on 4th October.
Also a Swashakthi Kantha Saviya programme targeting 100 women self employees have been commenced.
During the years 2012 - 6846 children and in 2013 - 2288 children had participated in this programme targeting children in Colombo under-served settlements (slums and shanties).(KH)
