    A fitting swansong for Mahela Jayawardene

    The farewell innings had not been perfect. At times in his career a Mahela Jayawardene hundred seemed almost inevitable at the SSC, but throughout his stay at the crease on day three and four, he was some way from his fluent best.

    Sri Lanka batsman Mahela Jayawardene's final Test innings saw him reach his 50th half century. Jayawardene reached 54 in the second innings of the second Test in the two-match home series against Pakistan before getting out.

     

    Jayawardene, who ends his 17-year Test career after this 2nd test match against pakistan.

     

    The 149-Test veteran finished with 11,814 runs at an average of 49.84 with 34 hundreds and 50 half-centuries by Mahela, making him the seventh highest run-getter in the world in test cricket in his career.

     

    Having retired from Twenty20 internationals after Sri Lanka’s title-winning campaign in the World T20 in April, Jayawardene will now play only one-day cricket heading into next year’s World Cup Down Under.

     

    Mahela Jayawardene is a best strategic player in the current world of Cricket. He has done tremendous contribution to Sri Lankan national team while captaining the side and even after came down as Captain, he supported to Kumar Sangakkara and now Anjalo Mathews.(SDF)
