The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou held a Tourism presentation on Sri Lanka on 8 September 2018 on the sidelines of the China (Guangdong) International Tourism Industry Expo (CITEE). The presentation aimed to create awareness of Sri Lanka as a unique tourism destination and to promote tourism investment among the Chinese public who are gearing up for their longest holiday season during the upcoming "Golden Week" which falls from 1 - 7 October.

This is one of the peak periods for outbound travel from mainland China rivaling only that of the Chinese New Year period. The attendees were shown a PowerPoint presentation on the tourist attractions in Sri Lanka with focus on wildlife and adventure sports which the Chinese are very keen on experiencing. A briefing on the conference and convention facilities (MICE tourism) was also given to invite attendees to have their industry forums in Sri Lanka.

During the event a plaque was presented to Great Scenery International Travel Agency for their ongoing commitment towards promoting Sri Lanka among the Chinese public in Guangdong Province. According to 2017 statistics released by the Guangdong Tourism Authority, there had been 9,544, 771 outbound travels from Guangdong Province.

The Consulate also managed a Booth at the CITEE Travel Fair from 7 - 9 September, responding to queries from many visitors and showcasing the locations within Sri Lanka which have received endorsements from international publications. This is the first time that Sri Lanka has participated at CITEE Tourism Expo. The three-day Expo drew exhibitors from 60 countries.
