The Commander of the Navy addressing the naval personnel who took part in the competition stated that the aim of the tournament was to train professionally competent naval personnel who can effectively carry out land-based operations in safeguarding the motherland. He directed them to employ team work and camaraderie they have developed during their training for the benefit of their naval career as well as their personal life.
On-the-job trainees (OJTs) belonging to the intakes 220, 221 and 222 and the naval personnel undergoing Special Operations training took part in the 7-day tournament organized by the Naval Marksmanship and Sniper Training School and the Combat Training Unit of the NMA.
The command flag unveiling demonstration was done by the best shooters of respective Naval Commands. The Man vs Man SOP demonstration, the side arm firing demonstration and the three-gun shooting demonstration added colour to the event giving the spectators a thrilling and enthralling experience. The Commander of the Navy, a veteran in Special Forces Operations, also joined with the competitors by taking part in a firing event to boost the morale of the men under his command.
The overall championship in the OJT’s combat competition was won by the Southern Naval Command with an excellent performance in physical fitness, field craft and basic tactics coupled with combat firing. The Eastern Naval Command was selected the runner-up.
In the SOP’s combat competition, the Eastern Naval command won the overall championship and North Central Naval Command received the runner-up award.
