    21 houses for naval personnel under "Api Wenuwen Api" Housing Project

    President Maithripala Sirisena graced the occasion as the chief guest at the ceremony of handing over the keys of hundred houses constructed under the second phase of the "Api Wenuwen Api" housing project in the Kandy district on Thursday (10). Certificates to 271 forces personnel were also presented, certifying their entitlement to building-material assistance worth Rs. 750,000/= each for the completion of their half-built houses at the official ceremony held at the Defence Services College auditorium in Colombo.

    At the ceremony, which started with observing a one-minute silence to honour the fallen war heroes, 21 naval personnel received the keys of their houses and 52 naval personnel received certificates for their entitlement to building-material assistance. All the houses of the phase two in the Kandy district were constructed by the Civil Engineering Department of the Sri Lanka Navy using its manpower and technology, Navy Media reported.

     

    The "Api Wenuwen Api" housing project is implemented under the guidance of the Sri Lankan President and on the direction of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence. The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence supervises the implementation of the project in tribute to tri-forces personnel defending the motherland.



    The Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils,  Faiszer Musthapha,Secretary of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Tri-Service Commanders, the Inspector General of Police, and a large number of military officers and officials of the Ministry of Defence were also present on the occasion.(Navy)
