Meeting with the Association of Oncologists this morning at the President's Office, the President promised that the government will take every possible measure for the welfare of the patients.
During the meeting it has come to light that he programs, which were implemented for the welfare of cancer patients when President Sirisena was the Minister of Health, have been stopped under the previous government.
The discussions with the President focused on number of initiatives that can be implemented to provide an efficient service to the cancer patients. Ideas considered include establishing cancer institutes in every districts and setting up of special treatment centers for cancer patients.
Activities of the Cancer Institute established in Jaffna Hospital were also discussed in the meeting. The Association of Oncologists also presented proposals with regard to the institution to the President.
