    June 20, 2015

President Maithripala Sirisena said the government would extend every possible assistance to the elected people’s representatives who work for the people, irrespective of their party politics.

The President made this promise at Neluwa, where he handed over a newly constructed school auditorium to the students.

The remote places in areas such as Neluwa and Galle have been developed as the public representatives have worked in harmony despite their political affiliations. Hence, my government is determined to provide them every possible assistance to continue their good work, he said.

President Srisena was received at the Neluwa National School by the teachers and students. He inaugurated the new auditorium and bestowed it to the students of the school. Thereafter the President exchanged pleasantries with the students.

Speaking on the occasion, President Sirisena said the government intends to make a radical transformation in the system of free education with the new education programmes. He pointed out that the youths resort to demonstrations demanding employment because of the shortfalls in the education policy. The education system is being transformed to suit the requirements of the rapidly developing technological demands and developments and experiences in the international field, he said.

The Neluwa National School was started as Mahabodhi Vidyalaya in 1907 with 6 students. It has now become a national school which provides education to scores of students in the entire region. Expressing appreciation over the developments in the school, President Sirisena promised to provide further assistance to the school.

Minister Piyasena Gamage, Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal De Silva, public representatives, Principal T K Premadasa, teachers and students participated in this event.
