    Sri Lanka Parliament approves government's interim budget Featured

    Sri Lanka's Parliament on Saturday (07) approved the government's Interim Budget that offered concessions to all sections of the society.

    The second reading of the Appropriation (Amendment) Bill presented in parliament on January 29 was passed with amendments with 164 legislators voting in favor and one against.

     

    President Maithripala Sirisena was also present in Parliament during the voting.

     

    Parliamentarians of the UPFA, TNA and Parliamentarian Jayanth Ketagoda of the Democratic National Alliance voted for the Budget and only parliamentarian Ajith Kumara voted against the Interim Budget.

     

    Parliamentarians DEW Gunasekera, Tissa Vitharana, Dinesh Gunawardena, Geethanjana Gunawardena, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Wimal Weerawansa, Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Y G Padmasiri, Weerakumara Dissanayaka and Sriyani Wijewickrama refrained from voting.

     

    Making the reply speech of the debate, Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayaka said this interim budget has been prepared for the entire year and is not just targeting the 100 days of government before General Election.
