The Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena laid the foundation stone for the building on Dec.31.
The objective of establishing this Resource Centre is to give a better education to the children with special needs after categorizing them into groups.
Through this project, it is also planned to train teachers in the sectors of special education and primary education, create material required for new teaching methods, train and create awareness among parents, early childhood development programs, integrated development programs in collaboration with national and international institutions, development of library facilities in the sector of special education.
The building will be quipped with boys and girls hostels, a first aid room and a water therapy room, a garden and a conference hall.
The total cost for the construction of the first phase of the Resources and Information Centre is estimated to be Rs.6.3 million and the second phase will be Rs.25 million. (KH)
