    Relics of Sandahiru Stupa chamber handed over to the President Featured

    The religious motorcade taking in procession the casket of Omniscient Sacred Relics up to Sandahiru Stupa commenced its first leg in the auspicious time at the President's House, Colombo this morning.

     

    President Mahinda Rajapaksa worshiped the casket of the sacred relics at the shrine room of the President's House during the session. Precious omniscient relics consecrated by the chief prelates of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi temple, Sri Pada (Adams peak) temple, Sri Subuthi Temple in Waskaduwa and Udaganawa Raja Maha Vihara were deposited in the casket prior to placement in the decorated vehicle.

     

    The religious motorcade winds up its journey in the evening at the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy concluding the first leg according to the schedule.

     

    Over 100 km long passage would take via Maradana, Peliyagoda, Kiribathgoda, Eldeniya, and Belummahara and expects to reach Nittambuwa by 11.00am. Thereon, it would continue from Wewelldeniya to Kegalle via Warakapola, Nelumdeniya and would reach Kegalle by 02.30pm.

     

    Finally the religious pageant expects to arrive at Kandy by 5.30pm via Mawanella, Kadugannawa and Peradeniya.

     

    In the history of gigantic Stupa constructions, forthcoming week would make a great leap forward by depositing those relics in the hemispherical dome of the Sandahiru Stupa admits Maha Sanga.

     

    Venerable Maha Sanga including the Chief Prelates of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi temple, Adams peak temple, Sri Subuthi Temple and Udaganawa Raja Maha Vihara blessed the motorcade prior to departure.

     

    Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development  Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Tri-Forces Commanders, IGP and a large gathering of devotees were also participated at the historical event.(KH/MoD)
