    India and US offered assistance to landslide victims

    External Affairs Minister Prof G.L. Peiris said in Parliament today that both Indian and the US governments have offered their assistance to Sri Lanka in providing relief to the people affected by the landslide at Meeriyabedda in Koslanda.


    The Minister participating in the second reading stage debate on budget 2015 said that Indian External Affairs Minister Srimathi Sushma Swaraj had contacted him over the phone and offered any assistance to deal with the landslide disaster which took place yesterday.


    “Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs in the United States Department of State Nisha Biswal also contacted our Ambassador there and promised to extend assistance,” the Minister said. (Special Reporter/HC)
