Minister Samarasinghe was responding to a query raised by the Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickremasinghe in Parliament today (29) as to what action the government has taken in connection with the landslide occurred in Koslanda.
The Minister said that rescue operations are being carried out with the assistance of the Police and the Army and the Disaster Management Centre has already taken action to evacuate the victims of the landslide. Also the management of the Estates in the areas too has come to assist the rescue missions in a bid to find any survivors under the rubble.
The Minister also noted that the Secretaries of the Disaster Management Ministry and Plantations Ministry have discussed and issued instructions to relevant parties.
Already action has being initiated by the Ministry of Plantation Industries and National Building Research Organization (NBRO) to identify landslide prone areas in order to minimize the percentage of landslide disasters, the Minister further added.(KH)
