The Sports Compex has been built through financial grants from the Sports Ministry at an estimated cost of 325 milliom rupees.
As mentioned in Mahinda Chinthana vision for the future, government has accepted that it is its duty to develop sports at rural areas in order to improve sports talents of the younger generation to make achievements at international sports competitions. It has been specially stressed that development of sports is an essential investment for peace and harmony of the country and its social development in the future.
Mahinda Cinthana vision for the future has proposed to construct nine fully fledged sports complexes in the nine provinces.
These sports complexes are equipped with a 400 m athletic track, 200m training track, cricket, cricket grounds and ground facilities for other sports, pavilion, 50 m swimming pool, indoor stadium, facilities for establishing a sports medicine unit, facilities for conducting training programmes at sports medicine units, canteen and dining hall, hostel facilities for 100 people.
Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, , Ministers Tissa Karaliyadda, S.M.Chandrasena, W.B.Ekanayake, North Central Province Governor Karunarathna Divulgane, Chief Minister S.M.Chandrasena, Deputy Ministers Weerakumara Dissanaaranayake and S.Muthukumarana were present at the occasion. (KH)
