Issuing a special media statement, the outgoing President Maithripala Sirisena requested all citizens eligible to vote not to get swayed by propaganda and rumors and exercise their right today for the presidential election.The environment in the country has been strengthened for all voters to exercise their franchise freely at the presidential election to be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019, the statement said.
On the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena, the security forces including the police and the armed forces have made all necessary arrangements for the election and the President has requested all voters to go to their polling booths disregarding unnecessary propaganda and rumors and cast their vote.
The President points out that it is the right and the responsibility of the citizens of a country where democracy is strengthened, to freely cast their vote for a candidate they like.
