Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, State Defense Minister Ruwan Wijewardene and top defense and law enforcement officials were also present at the occasion. The ceremony began with the observing of a two minute silence to the memory of fallen war heroes. The invitees paid floral tributes to the war memorial.
Speaking at the occasion, the President said war heroes and the national intelligence were capable of eliminating international terrorism from the country.President Sirisena further said that on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of the victory against a 30 year long brutal terrorism, the country has to face a totally different international terrorism in an unexpected manner.
The President said he is confident that with 30 years of experience in countering terrorism, they have the ability to face any challenges.President Sirisena noted that war heroes sacrificed their lives to safeguard the country and its territorial integrity and for the future of the people. President Sirisena said his government acknowledged the war heroes and their relatives for their sacrifices.
Meanwhile Sambodhi Wandanawa in connection with the 10th Anniversary of freeing the country was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Temple Trees. The aim of the religious ceremony was to celebrate the Vesak Festival, to remember those who died in the Easter Sunday attack and to wish for the speedy recovery of those who were injured in the attacks.
