The 'Knowledge Park' is being constructed at the former Tripoli market covering a land area of 25 acres to be used as a centre for the establishment of knowledge-based industries. The first phase of construction covering an area of 12 acres has now been completed.
The construction work is being carried out by the Urban Development Authority under the guidance of the secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapakse. The estimated cost of the project is seven million US dollars.
In accordance with 'Mahinda Chinthana Vision for the Future' to make Sri Lanka a knowledge hub in Asia, this 'Knowledge Park' will be developed as a city consisting business research institutions with modern facilities.. The CodeGen International, a private information technology company that supplies software solutions for the international tourism industry opened a modern office in the knowledge park recently.
The President during his visit held discussions with the officials of CodeGen International as well as business community who were present with the intention of investing in the knowledge park.
President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Transport Ministry Secretary Dhammika Perera and Urban Development Authority Chairman Nimal Perera were also present on the occasion. (KH)
