The minister responding to a query raised by UNP Kurunegala District MP Ashok Abeysinghe said that 12,322 kilometers of Grade A and B roads, and Expressways in the country’s road network were maintained by the Central Government.

Asked to inform the House of the length of roads maintained by the provincial councils and pradeshiya sabhas, the minister said a process of updating data and details pertaining to those roads was in progress. Maintenance of those roads was carried out on the basis of priority list and those roads. Action had been taken to develop and carpet again the roads that had been carpeted some 12-13 years ago, the minister added. (Special Reporter/HC)
