    President inspects Kimbulawela Model Paddy Fields Featured

    President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Tuesday (05) inspected the Kimbulawela model paddy fields at Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte, where traditional local rice varieties are being cultivated using only organic fertilizer.

    Cultivation in this model paddy fields are being carried out with the aim  of familiarizing the country for traditional and indigenous varieties of rice in order to  create a healthier and intelligent generation, under a programme initiated by the  Ministry of Indigenous Medicine.

     

    Some traditional and indigenous varieties of rice such as  Pachchaperumal, Suvandel, Kuruluthuda, Madanavalu, Gonabaru, Rankahawanu, Pokkala, Weda Heeneti,etc have been grown in an area of 65 acres approx..

     

    The President who visited the paddy fields inquired from the farmers about the cultivation. In reply the farmers told the President about the  experience they got during the cultivation and expressed their confidence of a richer harvest next time.   

     

    Members of the Maha Sangha, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene, Indigenous Medicine Minister Salinda Dissanayake and Presidential Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath also accompanied the President. (KH)
