The President took this opportunity to extend his gratitude to the Government of Japan for the warm hospitality extended to him during his state visit to Japan.During President Sirisena’s state visit to Japan, the Government of Japan agreed to provide further assistance in port development, digitalization, power and energy, tourism, health, infrastructure facilities and marine security. It was discussed in detail regarding the steps that should be taken in this regard.

The President apprised the representatives the need to rapid completion of the power projects which will be launched to eliminate the power crisis that could occur in the future.Discussions were also held regarding the Trincomalee port development activities carried out under the assistance of the Government of Japan and the President requested the representatives to provide their assistance in the infrastructure development of the Eastern province too.

It was also discussed to expedite the development activities of the Bandaranaike International Airport. President Sirisena also appreciated the special assistance given by Japan for the oceanic security of the region. He requested the assistance of the representatives to provide technical assistance to eliminate the drug smuggling which has become a threat to the region. President also announced that further steps will be taken to conduct all these projects successfully. Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Kenichi Suganuma and Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Prasad Kariyawasam and other officials were present in this event.
