The certificate awarding ceremony of the 5th batch of the Diploma Course in Media Studies and Journalism conducted by the Sri Lanka Press Council was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the BMICH, yesterday (2nd Aug.).
The special guest lecture titled, ‘Mass Media Guiding and Media Freedom,’ was delivered by the Chairman of the Press Council of India, Chandramauli Kumar.
Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera, Deputy Ministers Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Karunarathne Paranavithana, Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa, Prof. Sunanda Mahendra, Senior Journalist Ariyarathna Dombagahawatta, Gamini Sumanasekara, and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Press Council Koggala Wellala Bandula also participated.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
News.lk publishes in three languages – Sinhala, Tamil and English.
