President Maithripala Sirisena instructed issuance of a special gazette notification to declare garbage disposal as an essential service with effect from midnight yesterday (21st April).
The gazette is issued under the Clause No.16 of Public Security Act, declaring garbage disposal by any authority of the Public Administration is an essential service.
This covers garbage disposal, garbage separation, transportation and storage. Any person contravening the order and disturb any of the above activities will be liable for arrest, prosecution and punishable under the law.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
