The day, I left the former regime was the most important day of my life - President Featured

    November 22, 2016

“I gave up all positions and said good bye to the former government on a day like today, two years ago. It the most important day of my political life”, said President Maithripala Sirisena, recalling his historic decision to leave the former government.

The President was speaking at a meeting with newly appointed and promoted officials of Mahaweli Authority. The meeting was held yesterday (Nov. 21) at the BMICH.

“It is the responsibility of the President of Sri Lanka to treat similarly to those who voted for and voted against. It is also my responsibility to act independently, impartially and moderately,” he said.

“Ignoring of one area of the country in the development process ultimately resulted in a war. If the development process had been carried out in a fair manner, we wouldn’t have had to suffer from three decade long war. It is the responsibility of all government officials to serve the people in every area of the country, giving prominence not for the personal things but for the country and the people”, the President said.

The President said as an important institution in the country, the Mahaweli Authority must fulfill its responsibilities in the future with a new vision and strategy. All the officials should commit to fulfill their duties for today as well as for our future generation, he further said.

President Sirisena further said that the existing procedure to recruit employees of the Mahaweli Authority will be amended without causing any injustice to the present employees.
