    President, Chief Guest at 70th Anniversary Celebration of UNP

    President Maithripala Sirisena pointed out that, today the only slogan of the United National Party as well as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is not to allow any room for foreign powers to subjugate the sovereignty of the nation and the supremacy of the people. He further said that these two parties are able to build the country together standing on the same platform due to this exclusive and unique slogan.

    He made these comments participating as the Chief Guest of the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the U.N.P held at the Campbell Park in Borella on September 10.

     

    The UNP 70th Anniversary Celebrations was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe under the theme of “Mobilize People in the Forward March towards a New Nation.”

     

    The President also said that the 62 Million people of this country had voted for him at the Presidential Election due to the facts included in the election manifesto presented by him. President Sirisena also emphasized that he had committed himself to fulfill those responsibilities as the Head of State of the country and as the first public servant of the country.

     

    He also assured to build the country by strengthening national reconciliation and democratic freedom within this consensual government without leaving any room for corruption, malpractices, graft, wastage and nepotism in the country.

     

    Anyone can say many simple things when they are without any power, but as the responsible groups of the country, the government is dedicated to transform all necessities needed for the country.

     

    Addressing the Anniversary Celebration, the President also stated that a new constitution will be submitted which is acceptable to all communities and requested all media institutions not to allow false propaganda within their institutions regarding the new constitution to mislead the general public.
