    Fund to be established to uplift Pirivena education Featured

    Necessary steps would be taken by the President Maithreepala Sirisena to establish a fund to uplift Pirivena education and the temples.


    President addressing a ceremony at the Doranagoda Sri Sumanthindaramaya, yesterday (16th March) said, “Even the people in developed countries are showing interest to study Buddhist philosophy. Therefore our responsibility is to protect and nourish the MahaSangha in our villages.”


    The President visited the Sri Sumanthindaramaya temple at the invitation of the Ven. Rabukwelle Devananda thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Sumanthindaramaya temple and Sambodhi Viharaya in Berlin.


    According to the President a Professor Bhikkhu will be appointed soon to fill the post of Director (Piriven). That name has already been proposed to the Education Minister by the President after consulting the Maha Sangha of the Tri Nikayas.


    Maha Sangha including Chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Viharaya Ven Dr Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangarakkitha thero, Panvila Ananda thero, Minister Arjuna Ranatunga MP, Edward Gunasekara MP, Harshana Rajakaruna MP, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Dhammika Ranatunga, Former Parliamentarian Ruwan Ranatunga, Western Provincial Councilor Chaminda Silva and many others participated in this event.
