'Prime Minister's Question Time' introduced to Parliament

    February 07, 2016

'Prime Minister's Question Time', which facilitates an opportunity for backbenchers to directly ask questions from the Prime Minister has been introduced as a new item to the Parliament agenda from the next sitting week.

It has been introduced according to a proposal made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and four MPs among the Government and Opposition MPs except government ministers will be allowed to ask four questions during that allocated time.

They have to be asked in relation to the current situations and those of national importance. The Prime Minister will immediately reply to them in return.

Accordingly, this time will be allocated on Wednesday of every first sitting week of a month and the questions must be submitted at least a day before. As the beginning, the Parliament has allocated a half an hour from 1pm to 1.30 p.m. for this purpose on Wednesday, February 10.
