    Year 2016, the year of building country's economy says President Featured

    The year 2016 will be the year of building of the economy of the country, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said and added that a lot of programs will be implemented this year to bring about prosperous lives to all people in this country.

    The President made these remarks at the ceremony held yesterday (Jan. 27) at the BMCH to offer 10, 000 scholarships to the students of Samurdhi Beneficiary families.

     

    “No government has ever allocated such enormous funds for free education and free health services as the present governmen has allocated for this year”, he said. “We also have allocated required funds for the development of infrastructure facilities in rural and urban areas, and these development works have already been started”, he added.

     

    “While some people are questioning what the government is doing, the government has already commenced a program to bring about prosperous lives to the people by doing required political reforms and saving the people from poverty”, the President stated.

     

    President Sirisena symbolically handed over the scholarships at this ceremony.

     

    Minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare S. B. Dissanayake, Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Deputy Ministers Ranjan Ramanayake, Karunarathna Paranawithana, Secretary to the Ministry of Social Empowerment and Welfare Mahinda Senevirathne also participated in this occasion.

     

    The annual ceremony to award certificates to Diploma Holders of the Journalism and Communication Studies conducted by Sri Lanka Press Council was also held under the patronage of President Sirisena yesterday at the BMICH.

     

    The President symbolically handed over the certificates at this ceremony.

     

    Minister of Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilaka, Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa, Deputy Minister Karunarathne Paranawithana and Prof. Sunanda Mahendra participated in this ceremony.
