    Nothing will be permitted to damage our proud culture and ethics - President Featured

    Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena says that in the future the Government will not allow to organize indecent programmes which will mislead the youth.

    Speaking at a prize giving ceremony of the All Island Dhamma School Students’ skill evaluation,held at the D.S.Senanayake National School in Ampara, the President noted that a concert held recently had a negative impact on local culture and tradition.

    He said that irrespective of criticism, nothing will be permitted  to damage the proud culture and ethics.

    President Sirisena accused local authorities of failing to make proper inquiries before the concert was given approval and insisted that in future he will take measures to ensure such events are not approved.

    “I need to say these things. As a Sinhalese Buddhist I cannot refrain from expressing my views. I will speak out when our traditions and culture is harmed,” he said.

    He said that the Government would do all that is possible to develop Dhamma School education which protect culture and values. The President said that the Government would provide full assistance to build 50 Dhamma Schools in Digamadulla District. He further said that from next year Dhamma School teachers who have completed more than 10 years of service would be appointed as Justices of Peace. The President handed over certificates and awards for the Dhamma School students who have won competitions organized by Dhamma Schools.
