It was revealed that 36,046 vehicular accidents have been reported in the island between the 30th of July 2014 to July 2015 while 2,676 deaths have been reported as a result of the accidents. He said most of the accidents are due to reckless driving.
The Minister made these remarks in response to a question raised by United National Party Parliamentarian Buddhika Pathirana in Parliament today (14)
Minister Ratnayake also said Rs.1000 million has been allocated for year 2016 for CCTV camera installations in Colombo.The technology required by the Police to respond to 119 calls in a methodical manner is currently being reviewed, he added.
