    Strict measures to prevent child abuse

    The government aims to create a protective and caring environment, where children are free from violence. abuse and exploitation. Accordingly, the government is ready to take strict measures  to prevent child abuse and violence said the State Minister of Child Affairs Vijayakala Maheswaran.

    Also action should be taken to prevent violence against women.  Vindya, Seya were  raped and murdered.  Stricter laws could curb the rising trend of child abuse in Sri Lanka, the state Minister added.

    In Sri Lanka there are children without mothers, children with mental disorders, children affected by the war especially in the North.  The government is planning to increase child care centres, the State Minister emphasised.
