    November 11, 2015

The country has lost a great monk who engaged in a just struggle for several decades to realize the dream of a good governance. The late prelate Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero was not limited to any party, community or religion. He included his name as a supreme landmark in Sri Lanka’s history.

The Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe made these references issuing a condolence message to mark the death of Ven.Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera.

The Prime Minister said that the entire nation should take the lead in fulfilling the responsibility of building a just society, which was the late prelate’s ambition.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the Ven. Sobitha Thera took the forefront for a positive change on every occasion when democracy was facing danger, irrespective of which party was in power. He discharged his duties with dedication for the uplift of the country without being indebted to anyone and sans achieving any personal gains. His demise is an irreparable loss to the country and the nation.

The Ven. Sobitha Thera headed the National Movement for a Just Society in the struggle for good governance. The Prime Minister recalled the pioneering services he had rendered in this respect. He emphasized that it was the late prelate who gave him strength for his political journey becoming an adviser.
