    President to visit Thailand Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Thailand from November 01-04, 2015, to participate in the 60th Anniversary celebration of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand.

    During this visit, President Sirisena marking the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and strengthening the religious relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand, will inaugurate the exposition of the Sacred Relics from the Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya in Phutthamonthon, Thailand on November 02nd and the exposition will continue until 16 November 2015.

     

    The exposition is being organized by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, the Department of Buddhist Affairs and the Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya.

     

    A ceremony will be held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena to gift a Statue of the Gauthama Buddha to the people of Thailand as a symbol of friendship based on common spiritual link of Buddhism.

     

    A group of 60 bhikkhus headed by the chief incumbent of the Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Urulawatte Dhamma Rakkitha Thero will accompany President Sirisena on the visit to Thailand to take these relics.

     

    President is scheduled to hold discussions with King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand and the Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayuth Chan-o-Cha, on further strengthening the religious links between the two countries.
