Briefing the meida on the decisions taken at the Working Committee Meeting, Media spokesman of the party and Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated that the UNP has decided to contest the general election alone and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has been given powers to appoint a nomination board to select the candidates.

The working committee has also decided to hold the party convention in Colombo prior to the next general election, Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.
