    The delegation from the international Network of Engaged meets with the Hon. Speaker

    The delegation from the international Network of Engaged Buddhists held cordial a discussion with Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, the Speaker and Members of Parliament present at the occasion on topics pertaining to social inclusion, gender vulnerable groups and the formulation of national policies pertaining to the said.

    The said discussions were held when the delegation from the international Network of Engaged Buddhists to the Parliament of Sri Lanka from countries representing Myanmar, Thailand, and Sri Lanka met with Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana and other Members of Parliament recently (06). Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, Speaker of Parliament was presented with a valuable book from Myanmar. The delegation representing Myanmar stated that the book presented took 30 years to be written and 20 years to be translated and is a part of their national heritage.

    The bikkuni representation of the delegation from Sri Lanka disclosed that Bikkunis in Sri Lanka have been deprived of obtaining a National Identity Card. As a result, it has been challenging for young bikkunis to take part in state examinations they said.

    Whilst Hon. Members present expressed their views at this occasion, the Sangha also shared their experiences and the challenges faced. Accordingly, discussions were held regarding navigating through such challenges.

    Hon. Ajith Rajapakse, Deputy Speaker, State minister Hon. (Dr.) Suren Raghavan, Members of Parliament Hon. (Dr.) Sudarshini Fernandopulle, Hon. Rauff Hakeem, Hon. Premnath C. Dolawatte and Hon. (Dr.) Harini Amarasuriya and Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of the Parliament were present at this event.
