Addressing the cabinet decision media briefing held at the Department of Government Information yesterday (04), Minister Rambukwella said, based on the government’s analysis admission to universities in other countries is usually around 16 years of age while in Sri Lanka it’s around 19 years of age due to various reasons.
Therefore, to avoid this situation and minimize the timeframe of acquiring the first degree from state universities, the cabinet approval has been given to conducting both GCE O/L and GCE A/L examinations in the months of August and December respectively, and issuance of their results within three months.
He further added that the above measures will minimize the structural inconsistencies in the examination systems and help students to enter the job market without any delays.
