    Hopes to develop Sri Lanka as a regional aviation hub - Minister Prasanna Ranatunga

    Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga stated that the Government has planned to develop Sri Lanka as a regional aviation hub.

     

    The Minister said that the current Government intends to uplift the aviation service and frequency of flights that experienced severe repercussions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He said this attending the commencement of duties after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year of the State Ministry of Civil Aviation and Export Zone Development.

    Minister Ranatunga highlighted that both tourism as well as aviation industries which were collapsed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic will take a considerable period of time for recovery. However, the Government has already taken necessary steps to develop these industries by initiating many programs, and accordingly the Government's focus is currently on developing Katunayake, Mattala, Ratmalana, Jaffna and Batticaloa airports.

    The Secretary to the Tourism Ministry, S. Hettiarachchi, Secretary to the State Ministry Madhawa Devasurendra and many other officials were present at this occasion.
